Approach to Therapy
Dr. Lillard incorporates a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective in his conceptualizations of issues. He firmly believes that any of these areas can be the source of interpersonal and psychological concerns, and that they each may impact the other areas, as well. Understanding the underlying motivations for our actions and beliefs is the key to enabling any measurable change, according to Dr. Lillard. He aspires to increase a client's awareness of their emotional and interpersonal needs and wants, carefully delineating the two, so that the client may then address any existing barriers that might prevent the satisfaction and sustenance of these identified needs.
Dr. Lillard believes that a close, collaborative relationship between client and therapist is essential to successful therapeutic interventions. Such relationships offer accountability, support, increased understanding and awareness, and an opportunity to explore novel approaches to relationships and situations in a safe and trusting environment.
