Mindfulness Training
Mindfulness is the practice of paying
attention to your mind and body in the present moment. When we sit still long
enough to notice the subtle actions of our thoughts, feelings, and physical body
we learn a great deal about ourselves. We begin to accept our current situation
rather that judging and creating additional suffering and distress. By learning
to live in the present moment we begin to let go of the past and feel less of a
need to ruminate about the possible future. Through this process we begin to
truly experience calm and relaxation. This practice is often taught and practiced through styles of seated or walking meditation, but can also be achieved through relaxation and awareness skills, and systems of slow movement such as yoga or Qigong. Consistent practice of mindfulness has been shown to be an important technique in the management of chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and anger. |
